A Single Tooth Implant is used to replace any permanent tooth. It treats tooth
loss by replacing a decaying or otherwise poor tooth with a new tooth root and a crown to go with it. Good candidates for dental implants have a damaged or missing tooth, but also possess healthy gums and a relatively healthy mouth.
The procedure itself takes several steps to complete, starting with a methodical examination from your dental surgeon at DentaCare. A custom treatment plan is made for each patient and no two plans are the same. This allows every plan to analyze and take into account the treatment required to complete a successful procedure for each patient. Your examination will examine adjacent teeth along with your missing or damaged tooth.
Here’s how the process works:
- The implant process starts by surgically inserting a titanium post into the patient’s jawbone, using the bone socket of the missing tooth. Over the following six to 12 weeks, the jawbone will grow around the post, locking it into place and ensuring proper structural support.
- The patient’s dental surgeon makes an impression of the patient’s mouth. This is used in a computer model to find the best possible bite for the patient. Using the model, a replacement tooth, also known as a crown, is created. This crown is attached to the titanium post. To avoid an outlier tooth, the replacement tooth is color-matched to the rest of the patient’s teeth.
- Multiple implants may be used depending on the patient.
As noted above, patients should expect full recovery within six to 12 weeks. DentaCare will create a follow-up plan with the patient prior to the procedure. The best part: your implant won’t look different from the rest of your teeth at all. It’ll look and feel as real as a natural tooth!
